Texas public power utility Austin Energy recently hosted a tour and meeting with a reverse trade mission delegation from Malaysia, sponsored by the U.S. Trade and Development Agency.

She said the delegation consisted of decision makers from Malaysia interested in learning more about U.S. smart grid technologies and best practices for cybersecurity, distribution networks, and storage solutions for the power sector.

Comprised of about 20 delegates, the delegation included regulators, federal ministries of energy, public and private sector utilities, along with other entities central to smart grid policy and implementation.

The primary focus was advanced grid solutions and renewable energy integration.

As such, the visit included a discussion and presentation of Austin Energy’s La Loma Solar Farm and a tour of the utility’s headquarters.

Following the tour, members of Austin Energy’s executive team participated in a presentation and discussion with the delegation.

The Austin Energy panel included the Vice President of Technology & Data; Vice President of Customer Energy Solutions; Vice President of Market Operations & Resource Planning; Acting Vice President of Customer Account Management; and Director of Smart Grid & System Operations.

Additionally, the Reverse Trade Mission was hosted by the Business Council for International Understanding, the government contractor who organized the mission.
