Utilities working to restore power to customers in the wake of Hurricane Francine were making steady progress in their efforts.
Hurricane Francine made landfall as a Category 2 hurricane in Louisiana and was subsequently downgraded to a tropical depression.
Poweroutage.US reported that as of the morning of Sept. 13, Louisiana had 121,633 customers without power.
Louisiana public power utility Lafayette Utilities System on Sept. 12 said in a post on the social media platform X that linemen from LUS were traveling to Houma, La., to assist with restoration efforts, accompanied by crews from several Florida public power utilities.
The Terrebonne Parish Utilities Department (Houma) on the morning of Sept. 13 reported that it had successfully restored approximately 2,200 of 12,800 customers and that restoration to all feeders was expected to be completed by September 15.
Prior to the arrival of Francine, public power utility crews traveled to Louisiana to pre-position to help with power restoration efforts as Hurricane Francine continued on a path to the state’s coastline.
In the lead up to the arrival of Francine in Louisiana and throughout the power restoration process, APPA staff dedicated to mutual aid efforts and APPA’s Mutual Aid Committee have coordinated activities with APPA member utilities.
