UAMPS Names Matt Hastings as Assistant GM, Managing Director of Planning

Utah Associated Municipal Power Systems announced that Matt Hastings has been appointed as the assistant general manager and managing director of planning.

Hastings is the first to hold this position and will lead key planning efforts, identify new generating resources for further development, and drive strategic initiatives to meet the evolving needs of UAMPS members.

Previously serving as managing director of resources, Hastings has been with UAMPS for three years and has played an instrumental role in resource planning and project development.

His new responsibilities include directing the forecasting group, coordinating with member utilities on energy planning, and leading the implementation of the extended day-ahead market, which will significantly impact UAMPS’ market participation strategies, billing structures and resource optimization.

“I’m excited to take on this role and help UAMPS navigate the evolving energy landscape,” said Hastings. “My focus is on ensuring UAMPS remains at the forefront of energy planning, providing our members with cost-effective and reliable power solutions. Our goal is to address the diverse needs of our members while navigating the transition to new market structures.”

Hastings brings a wealth of experience from his previous tenure at PacifiCorp, where he managed energy accounting and transmission finance.

He played a key role in overhauling PacifiCorp’s billing process for load-serving entities and led the redevelopment of the jurisdictional load system software to accommodate billing and energy accounting for the energy imbalance market.

These large-scale, multi-year projects streamlined financial processes and ensured accurate market participation – experience that directly benefits his work with UAMPS as it transitions into the extended day-ahead market.

“Matt’s leadership and deep industry knowledge make him the ideal person to help guide UAMPS through this critical period of change,” said Mason Baker, CEO and general manager of UAMPS. “His strategic approach to planning and his commitment to serving our members will be essential as we enhance our resource planning efforts and navigate market developments.”

Hastings expressed gratitude for the dedicated staff and member communities he works with daily. “This organization thrives because of the collective effort of our members and staff. I am honored to contribute to our shared goal of providing innovative, reliable and affordable energy solutions," he said.

UAMPS is an energy services interlocal agency of the State of Utah, established in 1980.

As a project-based consortium, UAMPS provides a variety of power supply, transmission, and other services to its 50 members serving 395,600 customers in seven western states: Utah, Arizona, California, Idaho, Nevada, New Mexico, and Wyoming.
