Nebraska public power utility Lincoln Electric System has completed its South 56th Street Reliability Project, it said on April 9.
The project began in mid-2023 with the relocation of overhead distribution lines underground.
The project’s second phase started in November 2024 to replace a 115-kilovolt transmission line and many of its associated structures within the project area.
With work completed, the impacted area now has 26 fewer structures than it did prior to the project.
“The goals of the South 56th Street Reliability Project were to improve neighborhood aesthetics, reduce the impact of vehicle/pole accidents, storms and tree debris and boost system reliability,” said Tim Rajewski, project manager, Energy Delivery. “The work the LES team has accomplished demonstrates our commitment to continuously improving service and reliability across our service territory.”
The project also added the infrastructure required to support increased electricity needs for the area.
While the project is considered complete, LES will continue working with homeowners and businesses to restore property impacted by the construction, such as yards and fences.
