California’s IID Launches New Grants for Energy Modernization in Schools Program

In an effort to foster energy-saving practices and support a sustainable future, California public power utility Imperial Irrigation District has launched its new Grants for Energy Modernization in Schools (GEMS) Program.

GEMS, a revival of the Learning Energy Awareness Program (LEAP), aims to assist schools within IID’s service territory -- including public, private, and charter schools -- in adopting more energy-efficient technologies.

“This investment enhances both the learning and teaching environment, reduces operational costs, and fosters a superior educational setting,” said IID Board Chairwoman Gina Dockstader.

The GEMS program offers financial assistance to help schools manage the costs associated with high energy consumption, facilitating the acquisition of new, efficient HVAC systems. These upgrades not only support the well-being of students and staff but also offer financial benefits by reducing energy expenses.

Eligible projects may be fully funded, with grants up to $35,000 available for the installation of energy-saving HVAC equipment.
