Commissioner Willie Phillips has resigned from the Federal Energy Regulatory Commission.
Phillips, a Democrat who chaired the Commission under President Biden, has not indicated his future plans.
Phillips’ resignation opens the door for President Trump to nominate someone to fill his spot, which would create a 3-2 Republican majority.
Upon confirmation of that new commissioner, President Trump would have the choice to name that individual as the FERC chairman or keep Chairman Mark Christie in his place until the end of his term, which expires in June 2025 unless he is renominated.
