Colorado Springs Utilities Sells Bricks from Shuttered Plant to Fund Utilities Payment Assistance

Colorado Springs Utilities is offering a limited opportunity to purchase one of 200 commemorative Martin Drake Power Plant bricks and support Project COPE at the same time.

Project COPE provides utilities payment assistance to families and individuals struggling financially due to a personal crisis or emergency.

For nearly a century, the Martin Drake Power Plant supported Colorado Springs' growth, attracting new residents and businesses, the Colorado public power utility said.

The plant closed in 2022. “Despite its shutdown, the plant's impact on the city and employees remains a testament to its historical significance and vital role in the development of our community,” the utility noted.

Each brick is $109.50 ($9.50 pays for the auction house service fee, and the remaining $100 benefits Project COPE).

Beginning on Feb. 19, Martin Drake Power Plant Commemorative Bricks were made available for purchase through the Public Surplus website.
