LIPA Board Announces Appointment of John Rhodes as Acting CEO

The Board of Trustees of the Long Island Power Authority announced John Rhodes’s appointment as LIPA’s Acting CEO, effective immediately, LIPA said on March 27.

Rhodes comes to LIPA with a distinguished background in public service and energy policy, having served as Chair of the New York State Public Service Commission and President and CEO of the New York State Energy Research and Development Authority.

In addition, he has served as a Special Assistant to the White House Office of Domestic Climate Policy. His leadership roles have focused on enhancing the reliability and sustainability of New York’s energy systems, making him uniquely qualified to lead LIPA in its next phase of growth and development.

The LIPA Board “is committed to ensuring continued stability and success and will initiate a nationwide search for a permanent CEO to lead LIPA into the future,” LIPA said.

“The LIPA Board extends its deepest gratitude to Tom Falcone for his exemplary service as CEO over the past ten years. Under Tom’s leadership, LIPA has seen significant progress in fiscal sustainability and accountability while investing record dollars in grid hardening and modernization. His vision and dedication have been instrumental in navigating the utility through challenges and setting a strong foundation for future success,” LIPA said.

“It has been a privilege to serve as the CEO of LIPA for the last decade, a period marked by significant transformation and progress,” said Falcone.

“Together, we have navigated challenges, celebrated achievements, and laid a solid foundation for a sustainable energy future. As I pass the baton to John Rhodes, I am confident that his leadership and expertise will propel LIPA into its next chapter of excellence. I am profoundly grateful to the LIPA team, the Board, and our community for their support and collaboration during my tenure,” Falcone said.
