The Utility Division for the City of Loveland, Colorado, announced the introduction of remote disconnect and reconnect capabilities for electric service, made possible by the installation of new Advanced Metering Infrastructure electric meters.
“This upgrade significantly improves our ability to serve our customers. Two key benefits for customers who fall behind on their accounts include faster reconnect times—since we no longer need to dispatch a truck—and reduced reconnect fees as a result,” the city sasid.
The Electric Utility began to utilize the new remote disconnect and reconnect capability on April 21, 2025.
Customers will still receive mailed delinquency notices; however, the City of Loveland will no longer manually distribute door hangers for electric disconnect notifications. Eliminating the manual door hanger process is one of the ways it is reducing service reconnect fees, it noted.
Depending on network traffic, the remote reconnect process may take up to one hour, but in most cases will be much shorter.
