The Municipal Energy Agency of Nebraska and Central Nebraska Public Power and Irrigation District recently finalized an agreement on a 10-year power purchase agreement for 42 megawatts of capacity and energy from CNPPID’s Johnson Lake hydro facilities.
The CNPPID Board of Directors approved the agreement at its November 2023 board meeting. The Municipal Energy Agency of Nebraska Board of Directors approved the agreement prior to CNPPID’s approval.
The contract began Jan. 1, 2024 and runs through Dec. 31, 2033. It includes all power output of Johnson Lake hydro units 1 and 2.
The agreement aligns with the Municipal Energy Agency of Nebraska’s Carbon Neutral 2050 Vision, which was approved by the Municipal Energy Agency of Nebraska’s Board in 2020.
Along with the hydro power purchase agreement, the Municipal Energy Agency of Nebraska is also working to facilitate multiple community solar projects on behalf of its wholesale power participants as well as Municipal Energy Agency of Nebraska-owned solar power projects in several wholesale power participant communities.
