Oregon public power utility Springfield Utility Board this summer will hold a fundraiser for Project SHARE, which is SUB’s charitable program helping low-income customers with energy bills.
The event, the Light of Liberty Celebration, is in its 19th year and has raised $625,000 over that time.
SUB donates all event proceeds to Project SHARE (100% of ticket sales and all food vendor commissions).
The event takes place on July 4 and advance ticket prices have been set at $5 since its inception. Springfield veterans, families of active duty Springfield military and kids under 5 all enter for free.
The night ends with fireworks over the Willametter River, set to music.
“Light of Liberty is a party with a purpose,” said SUB General Manager Jeff Nelson. “The power of the people created SUB to provide power to the people. Springfield is a community that appreciates a celebration on a holiday that honors freedom while helping the more vulnerable customers in the community.”
