PJM Launches New Planning Tool Aimed at Further Streamlining Generation Interconnection Process

PJM Interconnection has launched the new NextGen planning tool, which is designed to be a one-stop shop for stakeholders and PJM planners that will further streamline the generation interconnection process, it said on March 4.

NextGen “provides a comprehensive, efficient interface that allows users to track New Service Requests from application to construction and to manage the portfolios of projects, all in one tool,” PJM said.

NextGen, which went live March 4, will also automate many tasks that are now performed manually.

The tool will provide enhanced project tracking with dashboards, emails and push notifications in the user interface, meaning all parties involved – generation developers, PJM planners and transmission owners – have the same real-time access to information. Users will be able to see all of their company’s portfolio of projects and any actions or decision points that are coming up.

NextGen is the latest step to support improvements in PJM’s new interconnection process. PJM expects the tool to significantly enhance efficiency and simplify the generation interconnection process moving forward, it said.

NextGen will replace QueuePoint for Cycle #1 projects in the New Service Requests process. QueuePoint will continue to be used for all other applications, including Surplus Interconnection Study Agreements and Upgrade Application and Studies Agreements.
