California public power utility Silicon Valley Power is proposing to construct 2.24 miles of new 115 kV transmission line. The project aims to balance and redistribute energy and support load growth.
Specifically, the project will connect the Northern Receiving Station and Kifer Receiving Station.
An initial study was completed by Aspen Environmental Group on behalf of SVP, in accordance with the California Environmental Quality Act.
Based upon the initial study, since the project involves constructing a new, 2.24 mile long overhead and/or underground 115 Kilovolt transmission line between two existing facilities to increase SVP’s system capacity and reliability, “the project will not have a significant effect on the environment because mitigation measures have been incorporated into/added to the project by conditions of approval that will reduce potential impacts to a less than significant level,” SVP said.
To help the affected community understand the initial study and to explain how the public can participate in SVP’s decision-making process, SVP held an in-person community meeting on August 22.
A Draft Initial Study/Mitigated Negative Declaration was published on July 31, 2024. The 30-day public review period ends on August 30.
