Distribution System Reliability and Operations Survey Report

The Distribution System Reliability and Operations Report provides insight into many areas of utility operations, including outage tracking, restoration, power quality monitoring, construction, staffing, and reliability. The report is based on a survey of public power utilities conducted every three years. The information on distribution system operations contained in this report is designed to provide public power utilities with a broad base of knowledge for formulating easy-to-administer and sound day-to-day practices.

The latest report, containing 2020 data, highlights the various ways public power utilities track and address reliability, including the technologies used to retrieve detailed information on the distribution system and track outages. All survey recipients indicated using the American Public Power Association's eReliability Tracker service, and most also indicated using a SCADA system and Outage Management System.
