Transmission
Investment funds managed by KKR, a global investment firm, and the Public Sector Pension Investment Board, one of Canada’s largest pension investors, announced an agreement to acquire a 19.9% interest in American Electric Power’s Ohio and Indiana & Michigan transmission companies for $2.82 billion.
Energy Storage
The U.S. Department of Energy’s Loan Programs Office announced a conditional commitment for a loan guarantee of up to $1.76 billion (including up to $279 million in capitalized interest) to GEM A-CAES, LLC for the Willow Rock Energy Storage Center, an advanced compressed air energy storage system (A-CAES) in Eastern Kern County, California.

The Vermont Public Power Supply Authority that Burlington Electric Department has joined VPPSA as a Strategic Member.
Generation
Indiana-based Hallador Energy on Jan. 7 announced that its wholly owned subsidiary, Hallador Power Co. executed a Conversion Transaction Commitment Agreement with a global data center developer, effective January 2, 2025.
The Indiana Municipal Power Agency received approximately $15.7 million of tax credit benefits plus interest through the Inflation Reduction Act for its work to develop renewable energy resources for its 61 municipal members.
Reliability
The North American Electric Reliability Corporation on Jan. 8 published a new incident review examining the risks and challenges posed by the increasing integration of voltage-sensitive large loads, such as data centers and cryptocurrency mining facilities, into the Bulk Electric System.
Distributed Energy Resources
KPP Energy’s PACE solar project continues to move forward at a rapid clip and a significant number of milestones were achieved recently, KPP Energy reported in the December issue of its KPP Lightning Round newsletter.

The U.S. Department of Energy on Jan. 8 announced up to $13 million is available to industry through a new Advanced Nuclear Energy Licensing Cost-Shared Grant Program.
